About me

A professor told me that if we (the library students) chose to become a librarian because we loved reading, we were in it for the wrong reasons.

I want to prove them wrong.

Sooooooo....Hello! my name is Deirdre or simply Dee.

Dee, the Magical Librarian

I am passionate book lover and aspiring youth services librarian with a deep love for storytelling. I hold a bachelor’s degree in English, an AA in Creative Writing and have always been captivated by the magic of words and the worlds they create.

 Simply put: i love reading.

And I want YOU to love reading just like i do. In here, you will learn that my reading tastes are as diverse as they are adventurous. I do adore paranormal tales that tug at the heartstrings with its melancholic hum, but i am most often happy to be immersed in a middle grade fantasy novel. (Uncle Rick is to blame)

As someone who dreams of guiding others through the wonders of books, I’m thrilled to share my journey and recommendations with you. I’m also excited to dive into the world of children’s picture books, as its something im learning to enjoy. (maybe too much) Not only will I be sharing my favorite book recommendations for young readers, but I will also be providing content warnings and thoughtful book discussions to help guide young readers and their guardians.

I am currently finishing up my master's degree but on my spare time you can find me curled up with a book sipping on boba.

Whether you’re a fellow fantasy fanatic or someone who’s just discovering the magic of reading, I hope you’ll find inspiration and joy here.

Please work with me, I'm still shifting the magic around and learning what works best as a reviewer and budding librarian blogger.

"Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives us a terrific advantage!"

Book & Movie Rating System

Book Rating System

Thank you so much for visiting my blog! This Rating System is transferable to YA, Middle Grade AND adult novels. Scroll down to find my movie rating system :)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars: Obsessed. Emotionally Ruined. Life-Changing.

This book grabbed my soul, squeezed, and refused to let go. I’m thinking about it in the shower, at work, in my sleep. I’m texting people about it like its urgent news. The characters feel real, the plot sticks with me, and I would gladly let this book haunt me forever. I will recommend it to everyone.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 Stars: Loved It. Something Tiny Missing.

This book was fantastic! It was beautifully written, super compelling, and full of moments that hit hard. I was fully invested and couldn’t stop reading. But there may have been one or two elements (like pacing, characters, or the ending) that didn’t quite reach perfection for me. Still absolutely worth reading and recommending.

⭐⭐⭐ 3 Stars: Good, but Not a Favorite.

I enjoyed it! Solid writing, interesting ideas, and moments that stood out. But I wasn’t fully swept away. Maybe I didn’t connect with the characters, or the plot felt uneven, or the execution didn’t match the potential. A perfectly fine book....just not one I’d scream about.

⭐⭐ 2 Stars: It Tried, but We Didn’t Click.

This book had potential, but overall, it didn’t work for me. Something major felt off — the pacing, the worldbuilding, the character motivations, or just the general vibe. It wasn’t bad, but I was pushing myself through it. Wouldn’t reread and probably wouldn’t recommend unless someone loves the specific genre.

⭐ 1 Star: No. Absolutely Not.

This book and I had a toxic relationship. I didn’t enjoy the story, the writing, or the characters, and it felt like a struggle to finish it. It was so close to being in my DNF pile. I wouldn’t recommend it, though someone else might see something in it that I didn’t.

Movie Letter-Grade Rating System 🎬✨

A+:  Absolute Masterpiece 😍

  • This movie hit all the right notes. I laughed, cried, screamed, and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I would watch it a hundred times and recommend it to everyone I know. Legendary.

A: Fantastic! 🙌

  • Strong story, amazing acting, and visuals that wowed me. I’m happy I watched it and would recommend it without hesitation. Top-tier entertainment.

B: Really Good 👍

  • Solid and enjoyable! I had a great time, but there were a couple of little things that didn’t blow me away. Still definitely worth a watch.

C: Meh… Could Be Better 🤔

  • It was okay. Some moments worked, some didn’t. Not a total waste of time, but I won’t be rewatching anytime soon. Good for passing time or casual viewing.

D: Low Key Struggle 🥴

  • I was trying to like it, I really was… but something was off. Plot holes, bad acting, or weird pacing made this a rough ride. Watch only if you’re curious or in the mood to laugh at it.

F: Hot Mess 💀

  • Yikes. I regret this. It was confusing, boring, or just plain bad. Don’t waste your popcorn or your time. Avoid.
